Um, there is no way you could have missed this wedding, but -- just to capture my favorites from the wedding of Jessica Claire (who, my friend L + I both agree, we wish we could be friends with -- not only does her writing reflect how cool + fun + down to earth she must be, but L (and her sis E) played kickball for ... gosh, 15+ years maybe? and JC had the most fabulous 30th bday party: a kick-butt kickball shindig!  Um, I've played kickball... twice maybe, and I totally want a kickball party for my 30th bday! a-hem, digression).

Be still my beating heart

Timeless Vixen Vintage strikes again. It is taking all my willpower not to purchase this right now. It is sooo crazy not in our budget. Like, it is more than my wedding dress was. And since I don't know when exactly we're getting married in the church to become religious-ly official, it would be insane to buy this, right? Like, when easily this covers 1/3 of the ski trip we're heading on next January.

How can clothes = travel? This is so unfair.

I just soooo heart the graduated shades of blue. And of course the lace. It's no obviously-vintage-wedding like the darn dress that opened this whole new world of vintage dresses. But isn't it cute? And re-wearable? Heck, I don't know where. But look at that flounce! And did I mention the lace? And the ohsolovely shades of blue? le sigh.

Esprit d'escalade ... but shopping

So, one of my professors talked about this french saying (I'm too lazy to look up spelling*): esprit d'escalade -- "spirit of the staircase." It's that feeling you have when, say, you're walking down a staircase after departing a party, and go, "Doh! I should have said that!" as a belated repartee strikes you. Happens to me *all* the time. Witty on my feet, I am not.

Well, in this case, I'm going, "Doh! I should have bought that!"

Cute, right? But it had this weird flap of lace in the front, centered, right below the bust, running the length of the dress. Very circa-the-time-period, whatever that might be. (Hey, I'm new to vintage dress shopping! but I've seen lots of dresses like that...) And it was $75. And okay, I didn't think I'd fit into it easily -- verrry close, but every online vintage store has gigantic warnings that basically say, "HEY! These measurements are of the DRESS and NOT you, so factor that into your shopping!" And, I mean, I have goals and all, but I don't know, an inch makes all the difference in the bust area!

A-hem. Anyway. While I sat on it (spied last Tuesday night @ 10p), someone snatched it up (by last Wednesday at 5p). (And I'm still thinking about it, yes.)

Boo. I mean, good, right? But man. That neckline is exactly what I want for lace + boatshaped + sheer w/ the strapless lining underneath... But is it a pretty blue? A blue gray? More gray than blue? And this convalidation ceremony is most definitely on hold + not happening next year.

Ah, esprit d'escalade (however you spell that. and for shopping.)

*And actually, I did try googling, but it didn't come up. I guess I am that off with the spelling. Oh well.

I remember visiting the Philippines when I was about 6 or 7, and all my cousins and aunts and uncles, whenever they asked a question, would end it in "... no?" And I was so confused how to answer!

But this -- there's no question that this work is stunning. I was flipping through my bookmarks and came across this by Elizabeth Dye, of englishdept on etsy. If only I lived in Portland so I could have a custom creation! That would be heavenly...

I know I've posted this before. But I just cannot get over how much I love this dress. I know, the beauty of vintage is it's one-of-a-kind-ness.

But gosh darn.

I *love* the lightweight of the material, the comfyness-cazh (how do you spell the abbreviation of "casual," you know?) of the material.

And all paired with the lace -- I seriously superheart the "strapless" look with a lace neckline + sleeves -- and non-fussy lace, at that, but yet not the crappy crochet lace (er, sorry for any fans out there).

Seriously, swoon.

Inspirational dress

Just, something about the volume and the lines and *all* *that* *fabric* (50 yards of silk taffeta! that's so crazy extravagant, it's dreamy, which makes me almost disgusted with myself for feeling so... almost).

Jeez, thanks to the inspiration from rocknrollbride, who posted this pic of Mrs. Candy Corn from weddingbee:

I've spent the last 1.5 hours looking at etsy + googling vintage lace tea length dresses. Which, of course, I proceeded to just stray away from, also.
Grr..

First, googling led me to weddingbee classifieds, which yielded perfection @ $180...

Or, more realistically like it would look on me (except of course I'm brown):



But, more searching led to my falling in love with ($$$! yikes!) vintage, most from Posh Vintage Girl (rock!). My main fantasy contenders (from this mini online search, hee), except they're all sold:

1. Everything about this.
2. The neckline and silhouette of this (if I couldn't find the above anywhere else):
3. Since my cousin-in-law left in their helicopter in a similar dress, I've been a little obsessed with it:
4. Clearly, I'm a little taken with the sheer (though I prefer lace) peekaboo-ness of the neckline.
